INTERVIEW WITH NEIL WESTWOOD ON HIS SENSATIONAL NEW MUSIC PROJECT

James from Mjolnir at the Movies (a.k.a. Bevel E on Youtube) gives an illuminating and insightful interview with Neil Westwood also from Mjolnir at the Movies about his sensational new synthwave music project in this three-part podcast on his Youtube channel, to which you ought to subscribe, as there is other good stuff on there too. In the first part, Neil talks about the conception of ideas and the importance of the environment, particularly Nature and the knowledge of localalised tradition for inspiration. He emphasises the importance of hard work and practice in honing one's talent and references his musical influences, as well as discussing why music is important in raising morale on the Right.

WHITE MAN'S SOUL: Part II. ABC's THE LEXICON OF LOVE

Bryan Ferry may have been the trailblazer from the North who developed what I term White British Soul, but he was swiftly followed by others. As mentioned in the last article on the subject, Roxy Music's album Flesh and Blood influenced a new generation of artists. Such was the Über-coolness of Roxy Music's lead singer that in Sheffield the nightclub Crazy Daisy hosted Bryan Ferry nights. It was therefore no coincidence that Sheffied would become one of the epicentres of the 'New Romantic' subgenre of synthpop.

WHITE MAN'S SOUL: Part I. ROXY MUSIC's AVALON

Soul music is said to be the preserve of the Negro, yet the later soul music of the Negro was not the preserve of the Negro, for it very often relied on Jewish production under the likes of Syd Nathan, Ralph Bass, Jerry Wexler, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, and on White classical tradition and instrumentation for its orchestral arrangements. All music can be said to be interconnected, but there is a reason the MOBOs are called the MOBOs, and soul music was created for a Black American market. The American Blue-Eyed Soul crossover genre very much links into this, but the White British soul tradition is quite different and distinct in the same way as that deemed to be Black American.
