The supergroup Genesis announced their reformation and subsequent tour at the beginning of the month. The trio of Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins are back after after thirteen years, but, unsurprisingly, original vocalist Peter Gabriel and influential guitarist Steve Hackett will be absent. Collins will delegate drumming responsibilities to his son Nicholas, as he can no longer drum himself due to spinal and nerve problems, and will perform solely in the role he has filled since the departure of Gabriel in 1975, that of lead singer. Even if Gabriel were to come back, which is very unlikely, there is no position for him to fill, as Collins can no longer revert back to drums. Hackett, on the other hand, can no longer fit into a band that has left him and his steadfast adhesion to prog rock behind, in favour of the more commercial pop of the Rutherford-Banks-Collins trio. The trio has, it has to be said, created some worthwhile catchy jingles, but let is not fool ourselves into thinking it is great art.
Do not get me wrong: Tyson Fury is not #ourguy. Yet one cannot let last Saturday night/Sunday morning's heavyweight world championship boxing match pass without comment, for it is often innocuous bread-and-circus events like these that mark sea changes. In the blue corner was Deontay Wilder, an open black supremacist who entered the ring in a cross between the Black Panther superhero costume and one of the Knights who Say Ni! This was to celebrate Black History Month, and his ring walk took him past screens displaying pictures of prominent Negro troublemakers like Malcolm Little and Martin Luthah Kang while his butler rapped about 'black magic', 'black music', 'young, black and gifted', 'Black Lives Matter', 'everything black', 'black medicine', 'black Jesus' and I'm sure the words 'black 'blackety blackety blackety black' appeared at one point. Imagine the outcry had a white boxer celebrated his own people, even in a more nuanced and inoffensive manner than this. I do not begrudge Wilder celebrating the achievements of his own people, but perhaps he would have been better served with people who genuinely sought to elevate their own instead of dragging others down. Happily, Wilder and his entourage were roundly booed by the audience, who overwhelmingly supported his opponent during the fight, which shows how much SJW 'woke' politics is being rejected.
The march towards the elites forcing us to become a grazing herd is well under way. (((Rupert Murdoch's))) Sky television channel has become notorious for its pro-vegan propaganda, with pundits on Sky Sports like Gary Neville and David Haye banging on about their vegan diets any chance they get, for which they have been employed and handsomely paid. Just yesterday, in a Youtube video on the channel Boxing Social, promoter Eddie Hearne talked about feeling 'amazing' while on a vegan diet, although he is inexplicably back to eating meat. Next month is now being propagandised as 'Meat-Free March' in the same way as 'Black History Month' has been created as a post-Christian version of Lent.
I read Andrew Joyce's article on Yukio Mishima at The Occidental Observer after a friend recommended it, and now I see that someone called Riki Rei has written a riposte over at Counter Currents. Riki Rei does not sound like the most European of names to me, and one is left to wonder yet again about how committed the author of The White Nationalist Manifesto Greg Johnson is to White Nationalism. After all, why the need to defend a non-White East-Asian homosexual? The question is largely rhetorical, of course. The question for Alt Right Mishima-weeaboos is whether it is his racial otherness or his dubious sexuality that is the biggest attraction. There are indeed over twenty articles at Counter Currents dedicated to a man of dubious character who was not even of European ancestry. The famous pose of Mishima as 'the penetrated saint' St Sebastian popular with homosexuals from Oscar Wilde onwards says a lot about the man and his followers. I do not need to iterate further on Mishima, for Joyce's article very much sums up my own thoughts on the Japanese actor, but what Joyce has written regarding Mishima also brings Joyce's own politics into question.
Christopher Tolkien has sadly passed away at the age of 95. As any reader of JRR Tolkien's works knows, Christopher was far more than the curator of his father's works, and we are as much dependent on Christopher as we are on John for bringing the whole Middle Earth saga to print. John had immense creative genius, but, as with many of those kind of people, lacked the organisational skills to order things properly. It fell to Christopher, both before and after his father's death, to organise his father's work into a coherent whole. It was Christopher who was tasked with reading what would become The Lord of the Rings to the rest of the Inklings in Oxford and he who created the map of Middle Earth that would adorn each volume.
Largely considered an American artist, Thomas Cole (1801-1848) of the Hudson River School of artists was actually born in Lancashire along with his also talented artist sister Sarah. Thomas painted landscapes and scenes from myth and history and has been criticised by Leftist academia for his Eurocentrism. One notices this pseudo-intelligentsia never accuse Negro painters of Afrocentrism in the same way: Afrocentrism is always to be celebrated as an intrinsic good and Eurocentrism as an intrinsic evil in the anti-White quasi-religious zealotry of what passes for academia. In fact, Cole also painted American Indians, but was always conscious of preserving their distinctiveness and otherness apart from White Europeans, although this is viewed neither as a positive nor a negative, but left merely as a statement of fact. The Leftist establishment have also considered this problematical, but it reveals their bigotry. If a white artist portrays them how they are, he is guilty of "othering"; if he portrays them as more civilized in a European sense, he is guilty of colonialism.
In this particular Intermission, David Yorkshire takes a look at small-budget British horror film Possum, written and directed by Matthew Holness, who had previously written and starred in horror spoof TV series Garth Marenghi's Darkplace for Channel 4.
